Im Tierreich wie bei den Menschen gibt es unterschiedliche Geschlechter und Lebensweisen. Doch wer in den westlichen Gesellschaften nicht in die Kategorie »Mann« oder »Frau« passt, fällt auf, wenn nicht sogar raus. Schnecken sind Simultanhermaphroditen. Sie haben »weibliche« und »männliche« Fortpflanzungsorgane. In selbst genähten Nacktschnecken-Kostümen bekriechen Nora Jacobs und zahlreiche abenteuerlustige Menschen-Schnecken den öffentlichen Raum und lassen das Publikum förmlich über vermeintliche Normvorstellungen stolpern.

In the animal kingdom, just as among humans, there are different genders and ways of life. Yet in Western societies, anyone who does not fit into the categories of “man” or “woman” stands out—and even falls outside (the norm). Snails are simultaneous hermaphrodites. They have “female” and “male” reproductive organs. Dressed in selfmade slug costumes, Nora Jacobs and numerous adventurous human-snails crawl through public spaces, causing the audience to literally stumble over ideas of supposed normality.
